The inaugural vintage of the mountain estate vineyard shows a dark red garnet robe in the glass and reveals a fragrant bouquet of red cherry, plum, bay laurel and tobacco leaf.  There is a consistent, distinct floral and earthiness that is reflected in its aromatic profile.

Rich and concentrated with dark red fruits on the palate, this wine shows a balanced tension between its density and its stony minerality.  Texturally refined through its persistent finish, this wine will age gracefully with patience over the next 15 years, but will also reward those who enjoy it in its youth.

The beginning of the drought in California revealed itself in 2013, presenting challenges in the vineyards.  The 2013 growing season started with a warm spring that brought high winds and very little rain.  These conditions produced shorter shoots and a more restricted canopy that resulted in small berry sizes, creating intense flacpor concentration and structure to this vintage’s wines.  Just like 2012, the 2013 summer was consistently warm without any massive heat spikes, which led to a very even ripening curve.  The early harvest produced a smaller crop of the highest quality fruit.
