2013 Pamelita Reserve

2013 Pamelita Reserve

The inaugural vintage combines the best barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon from both the Hamel Family Ranch and Nuns Canyon vineyards.

The inaugural vintage combines the best barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon from both the Hamel Family Ranch and Nuns Canyon vineyards.  Deep and dark garnet in hue, this premier blend is densely perfumed with blackberry, kirsch, incense, smoke and lavender notes.  Tightly woven layers of refined, sweet tannins build a textured, monolithic palate evoking concentrated dark red fruits, violets, balsam and crushed rock.

The combination of vineyard sites in the blend highlights the power of the vintage.  This wine will captivate those who enjoy it in the near term, but will benefit those with the patience to cellar it over the next 20 years.

The beginning of the drought in California revealed itself in 2013, presenting challenges in the vineyards.  The 2013 growing season started with a warm spring that brought high winds and very littel rain.  These conditions produced shorter shoots and a more restricted canopy taht resulted in small berry sizes, creating intense flavor concentration and structure to this vintage’s wines.  Just like 2012, the 2013 summer was consistenly warm without any massive heat spikes, which led to a very even ripening curve.  The early harvest produced a smaller crop of the highest quality fruit.
