Bright aromas of dark cherry and plum deliver a resonant fruit purity over complex notes of crushed stones, violets, cedar and graphite.
The vintage from our valley floor estate vineyard exhibits the deepest, most saturated garnet hue of our 2014 allocated wines. The wine bears a broad and fresh signature with integrated, structured tannin and a juiciness that crests at mid-palate. Rich and full-bodied, it offers ample mouthfeel that persists through the finish. This is a classic expression that provides pleasure in the near term, but will continue to develop over the next five to ten years.
In the midst of the ongoing California drought, the winter rains came later than expected with much less precipitation than normal. Luckily, the spring rains were robust and soaaked deeply into the vineyards’ soils, which allowed for further dry farming and led to lush canopies. The constant warm spring temperatures led to a very early bud break and bloo, that was followed by a fast and uniform flowering, ensuring a good fruit set consisting of smaller cluster sizes.
Sonoma’s warm summer guaranteed even ripening of grapes. Most varietals were picked a few days ahead of the 2013 vintage resulting in very concentrated, robust flavors.
